I begin, again.

My first foray into blogging was in 2005, when I joined www.traveblog.org so I could post about my trip to Malta. Between 2005 and 2013 I wrote 110 posts as I traveled the world. By 2013 I was consumed by a PhD program, living in survival mode. My travelblog, plus the personal and science blogs I started in 2008 and 2011 were too much to maintain. I stopped updating them. Eventually I even took a break from posting on Facebook and Twitter.

It took years for me to understand the damage that years of burnout caused me. I had just started to move back into thriving mode when the global coronavirus pandemic struck. I started a new blog, hoping some of what I’d learned as I recovered from my burnout could be helpful for living through the pandemic. That lasted a few weeks, but as the weather warmed up I retreated outside to work in our gardens. I toyed around with turning my latest blog into a gardening blog, but it didn’t quite seem right.

The truth is, thanks to the pandemic I was wrestling with an existential crisis – I still am, but the one thing that has become clear is that I have a lot to say about a lot of things. I am a writer. And so here are my revamped website and blog. There will be some travel writing, some gardening pieces, and some opinion pieces. My original photography will also feature.

Life has taught me that I will always be a work in progress (and thank goodness, for who wants to be stagnant), and so will this website. But perhaps you will find something that resonates, something that inspires, something that distracts and entertains you, something that makes you think.
